Heritage buildings and significant trees. Whilst they can be regarded as limitations, we see them as character definers.
This Californian Bungalow from circa 1920s was modest in size, great in significance and derelict in condition. The owners saw the beauty from the past poking through the dirt and embraced the home, working with us to provide a contemporary addition to the rear whilst fully restoring the Heritage listed home to council’s strict standards.
A large tree dictated that the centre of the block could be used for no more than a link space between the old and new areas; creating a dramatic sense of transition from the 1920s to today. Both forms have breathing space and there is no confusion or disharmony here between old and new.
